Education is not obedience.
It is provocation. Real learning begins when your brain gets delightfully confused and then figures something out.
A globally fictional organization
Field guides for revolutionary imperfection, radical rest, and being a human without turning it into another performance metric.
Published & emotionally available-ishWelcome to the Institute
We make books and field manuals for recovering perfectionists, soft-hearted strivers, and anyone who has ever whispered “I just want to lie down forever” while answering an email.
No seven-step optimization plan. No weaponized gratitude. Just emotional intelligence wrapped in absurdity, handed to you by a goat in a robe.
The Institute Manifesto
Education was supposed to prepare people for life. Instead, it often prepared them for tests about life—which is rather like learning to swim by memorizing the molecular structure of water while sitting in a completely dry room.
We noticed that the smartest, most creative, most interesting humans we knew had learned their most important lessons outside the traditional system. They learned by failing spectacularly, asking ridiculous questions, and following curiosity down rabbit holes absent from every approved curriculum.
So we asked: What if learning worked with human nature? What if we honored questions more than answers, taught people to think sideways, and allowed rigor to coexist with ridiculousness?
Thus, The Institute for Absurd Excellence was born.It is provocation. Real learning begins when your brain gets delightfully confused and then figures something out.
Anyone can memorize facts. It takes courage to ask the questions that matter—especially the ones that make people uncomfortable.
It is a signal. The thing that makes you different is not a bug to fix. It may be your creative genius asking for attention.
Your feelings are not interrupting the lesson. They are part of the lesson, carrying information worth learning to read.
You have something particular to contribute. You may simply not have written it yet.
And yes, kazoos are a learning tool if you play them with enough confidence.
Do not question the premise. Please keep all limbs, feelings, and original thoughts inside the approved curriculum.
Think with your whole body. Fail beautifully. Learn by doing, breaking, rebuilding, storytelling, playing, and making meaningful mistakes.
Who this is for
What to expect
“Stay curious, make it weird, and remember that the goal isn’t to become someone else’s version of smart. The goal is to become a more interesting version of yourself.”
— Carl the Goat, Ph.D. in Messes with Meaning
Important disclaimers
This is not traditional education. We cannot guarantee you’ll get a job. We can guarantee you’ll become more interesting, more creative, and better at solving problems without obvious solutions. Carl may eat your homework; this is considered constructive feedback.
The first lesson: you already know more than you think you do, and you have more to learn than you could imagine.
The extremely rigorous curriculum
You are a person, not a software update. Carl checked.
Lie down before your body submits a formal grievance.
Regulate first. Philosophize after crackers.
The published field guides
Beautifully illustrated survival manuals for the chronically capable and spiritually overcooked.

A field guide to revolutionary imperfection—and the radical act of becoming yourself without first completing a twelve-week program.

A lazy survival manual for the endlessly tired human. Reclaim naps as rebellion and stop auditioning for permission to be weary.

Absurd Meditations from the Meadow
Short reflections for tired humans who would like their emotional wisdom delivered by a philosophical goat beside a suspiciously calm duck.
Episodes are being gently assembled with insight, meadow noises, and the minimum viable amount of personal growth.
Currently causing paperwork
Currently making their way through the Institute’s highly scientific publishing process: writing, revising, snacks, existential doubt, more revising.
